The La Rioja-based outdoor footwear brand Chiruca has signed a sponsorship agreement with Xacobeo 2027, thereby becoming a sponsor of this celebration, one of the major cultural, tourist and religious events in Galicia and Spain.

The agreement was signed on Thursday 24 September at the Calzados Fal-Chiruca premises in Arnedo (La Rioja), during a visit by Marcos Gómez, Commissioner for Xacobeo 2027, and Antonio Casas, Director of Tourism for Galicia, to the La Rioja-based company.

During the visit, they were welcomed by Carlos Abad, manager of Calzados Fal-Chiruca, and Alejandro Abad, the company’s deputy director, with whom they held a meeting to discuss the importance of the upcoming Holy Year and the role of collaboration between institutions and the business community in promoting and developing the various initiatives linked to Xacobeo 2027.

The agreement will enable Chiruca to play an active role in the development of Xacobeo 2027. In addition to the financial contribution provided for under the sponsorship, the company will supply Xacobeo volunteers with clothing and footwear – with Chiruca boots playing a particularly prominent role – thereby helping them to carry out their duties on the ground with the appropriate equipment.

During the meeting, representatives from both organisations discussed the importance of Xacobeo 2027 and the role played by companies linked to the outdoor sector in accompanying and supporting the thousands of pilgrims, walkers and volunteers who take part in activities along the Camino de Santiago.

Chiruca maintains close ties with the Camino de Santiago and the sport of hiking, two areas directly related to its business. The company develops footwear and equipment for outdoor activities, designed to support those who cover long distances on foot and face varied terrain and weather conditions.

The agreement was signed by Carlos Abad, in his capacity as manager of Chiruca, and Marcos Gómez, in his capacity as Chief Executive of the Sociedade de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo.

Through this partnership, Chiruca reaffirms its connection with the Camino de Santiago and joins the Xacobeo 2027 initiative by providing financial resources and equipment, with the aim of contributing to the development of a Holy Year that will once again place the Camino and Galicia at the centre of national and international attention.

The meeting also served to highlight the importance of collaboration between institutions and the business sector in the context of the upcoming Holy Year. In this regard, Chiruca’s involvement as a sponsor of Xacobeo 2027 forms part of the Xunta de Galicia’s strategy to promote public-private partnership in the organisation of this major event.
