We have created our own forest, the Chiruca Forest

For years, for us, working for the environment and its preservation has become our top priority. That’s why we wanted to go one step further and embark on a new adventure: the creation of our own forest, the Chiruca Forest.
For years, for us, working for the environment and its preservation has become our top priority. That’s why we wanted to go one step further and embark on a new adventure: the creation of our own forest, the Chiruca Forest.
The Chiruca Forest extends very close to our facilities in La Rioja. Specifically in the Riojan municipality of Bergasa, the first town in La Rioja Baja that has achieved the reparcelling, which makes possible very suitable land for reforestation. It consists of 6 hectares of land on which the aim is to reforest 6,000 trees.
With the creation of this Chiruca forest, the aim is to compensate the CO2 emissions derived from the manufacturing process.
This forest was officially inaugurated on the 9th of November, with the planting of the first trees by Chiruca staff and the Authorities of the Government of La Rioja, the President Mr. José Ignacio Ceniceros and the Minister of the Environment Mr. Iñigo Nagore.
Our commitment to the implementation of work systems that care for the environment is one of the main pillars that support the company. That is why our philosophy of social responsibility has allowed us to define the significant environmental impacts of the company and set targets for improvement, through various environmental management certifications that we have obtained over the years, such as the “Carbon Footprint CO2 Controlled“, certification that we obtained in 2012 and which allows us to become aware of the environmental footprint that derives from our activities.
AENOR’s CARBON FOOTPRINT – CO2 CONTROLLED certification is the perfect tool to establish an appropriate policy of respect for the environment in those companies with a desire for continuous improvement. We were the first Spanish footwear company to be certified by AENOR.
Since 2013 and thanks to a high sensitivity to the environment, we have continued with the annual calculation of the carbon footprint. Thus, the company Calzados Fal and its brand Chiruca® joined the MAGRAMA initiative (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment) to calculate, reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The commitment to reduce and compensate the carbon footprint, concludes their registration in the national carbon footprint register, through which they can establish CO2 reduction and compensation programmes based on annual calculations. All this, in addition to establishing their environmental policy, gives us peace of mind with regard to new climate change legislation.
We have calculated our carbon footprint for 2013 and 2014, and we are committed to reducing and offsetting our carbon footprint in 2015. To this end, we have taken measures such as the consumption of renewable energy to reduce emissions and planting trees as a CO2 sink that will allow us to offset greenhouse gas emissions.
For all these reasons, and above all because of Chiruca®’s eagerness to take care of the planet, we have taken our brand to the new Chiruca Forest adventure.
In addition, we want anyone who is concerned about the environment and who wants to collaborate with our project to be able to do so. For this reason, we are making our new website www.bosque-chiruca.com available to everyone, from where those who want to form part of this commitment, if they wish, can plant their own tree in the Chiruca Forest and even give it the name they want. The more trees planted, the more the forest will grow.
